Formspider in Brazil

This week, we’d like to introduce you to Ricardo Monteiro from Brazil. Ricardo is the first Formspider developer from Brazil we are featuring on this blog. His story, the challenges he ran into while using Apex, and the reasons he chose Formspider should come very familiar to many of you.

Ricardo, can you tell us a little bit about yourself please?

I have been developing applications for about 30 years. Currently, I am a Subject Matter Expert on Oracle and PL/SQL at Cognizant Brazil, an international consulting company with about 60.000 employees around the World.

In my career, I worked with many tools and programming languages such as Cobol in mainframe environment, C, VB, Powerbuilder, Java etc… I have been working with Oracle and its tools since 1994.

What kind of an application are you building with Formspider?

Nowadays, I am developing an application to show management indicators to managers that control operations of applications. This application shows the allocated resources doing enhancement to customer’s applications, servicing request or incidents as well as the performance of these resources.

“The application shows the allocated resources, servicing request or incidents as well as the performance of these resources”

Why did you decide to build this application with Formspider?

Initially, I started building the application with Apex but Apex could not deliver the high quality user experience I wanted to have.

In Apex, you have “fixed” models. If you want to create something different, Apex will not give you everything you need. I know that Apex has templates, and if these are enough for you, your development can be fast. But, I have seen that this is not always the case. You always end up having to create something that doesn’t fit the box that Apex puts you in.

I participate in several online forums here in Brazil, about Oracle, PL/SQL and Java and one DBA mentioned to me Formspider as an alternative to Forms. I was curious. I took a look at the Formspider site and downloaded the product to try it out.

How was the learning curve of Formspider?

I needed only a little bit of help from the Formspider Team. They created a sample application that was my “north star” while I was building my application. I was able to build the high quality 100% AJAX application I had in mind, without worrying about AJAX calls at all. The user experience is great. It would have taken me a lot of time to replicate this user experience in Apex, assuming it is possible in the first place.

Do you have any other comments for the readers of our blog?

With Formspider, I can do things that are not so easy to do with Apex and I am loving it! I know Formspider is still a new product, but I think it is a better tool for developing applications.

I love Formspider and I highly recommend it to my colleagues here in Brazil and around the World. I will do my best to engage the Brazilian Oracle Community with Formspider so that we can fully utilize the potential of this great product.

Finally, I’d be happy to get in touch with developers from Brazil and share or anywhere else and share my experiences if they are interested in building applications with Formspider. You can connect with me from my LinkedIn profile.
